🇸🇾 Raja al-Damaqsi Speaks Out About His Arrest by HTS Militants

Mr. Raja al-Damaqsi has revealed details about his recent arrest by militants, along with 21 other Druze activists. According to his account, they were arrested in and later transferred to Harim Prison in governorate, near the Turkish border.

• Al-Damaqsi reports that he and the others were subjected to physical abuse, torture, and verbal insults. The detainees were allegedly referred to as “Druze pigs” by their captors.

• He states that they were released today and returned to Sweida under the escort of Mustafa Bakour, the HTS-appointed governor of Sweida. Bakour claimed that the arrests were due to “suspicion,” but did not clarify the nature of that suspicion.

• It's worth noting that pro-HTS media outlets portrayed the governor’s meeting with Druze spiritual leader Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri as a reconciliation or alignment between HTS and Druze leadership.

However, the meeting served merely as a handover of detainees who were arbitrarily and sectarianly imprisoned.

Meanwhile, the fate of thousands of detainees remains unknown in Harim Prison. Their continued disappearance raises serious concerns about sectarian targeting and the conditions inside HTS-controlled detention centers.
