Yesterday, heavy gunfire was heard from Adra Prison, sparking fears among the families of detainees about possible executions inside.

Adra Prison holds thousands of detainees, both military personnel and civilians, mostly , who have been imprisoned without justification. Reports indicate that the treatment of detainees rivals, and even surpasses, the brutality of the Assad regime.

While Assad’s dictatorial regime imprisoned thousands of opponents from all sects to silence dissent, Al-Jolani and his administration have detained thousands solely for being Alawites, in addition to thousands of military personnel who were arrested after the fall of the regime. Among them are 2,000 soldiers from the Iraqi border garrison, despite having never participated in combat.

Adra Prison is located north of near Mokhyam al-Wafideen, which is home to displaced people, mostly from the Golan Heights and Palestine.
