Former ISIS Member Leads Military Unit Affiliated with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham in Syria

Seyf Abu Bakr, a former ISIS member and commander of the Hamza Division, has been appointed commander of the 76th Division in Aleppo.

Abu Bakr played a significant role in the ethnic cleansing massacres in the Kurdish city of Afrin in the Aleppo countryside and helped facilitate the deployment of Syrian National Army fighters (a Turkey-backed faction) to Libya and Azerbaijan.

Despite his past ties to ISIS, Abu Bakr has become a prominent military figure under Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s rule.
